The central government has decided to appoint Liu Xianfa commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Macau, replacing Shen Beili, the state media Xinhua reported.
Shen stepped down in July to become the deputy head of the international liaison department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, Macau Business reported.
Born in Qingdao, Shandong Province in April 1963, Liu graduated with a doctoral degree in management science, having held several teaching and management positions in state oil companies, institutes and national departments.
Having started at the department of development for China Petrochemical Corporation (Sinopec) in 1989 he went to become president of the petrochemical research institute of the China National Petroleum Corporation until 2011. He later several different diplomatic positions, first as deputy consul-general in Los Angeles between 2011-2012, then as consul-general in Lagos, Nigeria, in 2012-2013 and as ambassador extraordinary to Kenya until 2018.
In 2018 Liu became an ambassador at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and then an assistant minister until the current new assignment.
